The Hedgehog Herald
May/June 2008
Dear Holly Grove Families,
Our recent field day for tracks 1, 2, and 4 was a huge “hit.” Our students enjoyed 16 stations during their time on the field. We had many parent volunteers, who helped to make this event a huge success as well. With this being our first field day, we were sure how well it would work, but I think it surpassed our expectations…so much so that I received calls from our track 3 parents as to when their field day would be. Track 3’s field day will be held on May 23, from 9:30AM-12:30PM. We are in need of parent volunteers. Call the school at 577-17000, to let Mr. Benson know if you are available to volunteer.
As this year draws to a close, I pause to offer my gratitude for the support we have received from our school community. We have had a very successful year. It’s hard to believe that we have a few short weeks of school left. These last weeks will be filled with many activities and lots of review as we continue to prepare to complete our academic school year. You are such a wonderful and important part of the journey we started in July where our quest to reach for the stars has bound us together in our quest to create success for all students.
Outgoing PTA board members
To our out going PTA board members, I can’t thank you enough for the impact you have had on our school community during your tenure. Through your fundraising efforts and ongoing support, we have had the opportunity to launch purchase picnic tables, fund many cultural arts events, provide $ for our teachers to purchase supplementary materials for their classrooms, and the list goes on. Thank you for never giving up and for forging forward so that we can continue to promote academic excellence.
Early Release Luncheon
At our last early release luncheon, Mrs. Bozanno and Mrs. Thomas surprised us with another wonderful meal and lots of “give-aways.” We were overwhelmed and continued to be overwhelmed by the generosity of our parents. You do so much and we appreciate all of your efforts.
End of Grade Testing
During the week of May 12th, we had the regular administrations of the End-Of-Grade Test for our track 1 students. They will have four days of testing during this week. One of the days will be for Science field testing. Tracks 2,3, and 4 will take their tests during the week of June 16th. A free breakfast will be provided each day to all students They have worked hard this year and the results should reflect that hard work. Make sure your children get a good night’s rest for these days. This year we will only get results back for our math tests. The results of our reading and science test will be shared in the fall of our school year.
Informance
Our last informance of the year will be held on May 29th. We will feature our 4th and 5th grade students. It will begin at 6:30PM and be held in our multipurpose room. You won't want to miss it. Last year’s informance was outstanding and this one will be too.
Sock Hop
Put on your dancing shoes and find those clothes from the 70s. We are gearing up for our second Sock Hop. Our mayor, Dick Sears and his wife have confirmed to attend along with other special guests. This was a fun event for our school families last year and we are looking forward to it again this year. Remember to pre-order your chic-fil-a sandwiches if you plan to eat with us. There will not be orders taken on the night of the event.
2008-2009 school year
Finally, to those families who will not be returning to Holly Grove, have a wonderful summer and a most productive new school year. To those of you who will be returning, enjoy your summer, and we will look forward to working with you during the 2008-2009 school year. If I can be of assistance to you, please call me at 577-1700.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wiladean R. Thomas,
Principal
