Counseling

Individual counseling
includes long/short term cases where assistance is given to children with special needs/concerns. Children may be self-referred or referred by a teacher, parent or administrator
Small Group Counseling
may have a developmental focus or be concerns-based. The group usually meets in a range from four to eight sessions or as needed.
Large Group Guidance
focuses primarily on prevention and developmental issues. Counselor led classroom guidance lessons are presented as units of four to six sessions on specific topics.

Consultation

Counselors consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies. The focus of consultation is to best meet the needs of children through resources available in the community and the adults involved with the specific child.

Coordination

A counselor has responsibility for implementing the comprehensive, total school counseling program by: organizing a guidance committee, by serving as a resource person to faculty and staff, by increasing awareness of the need for school-wide guidance curriculum and by increasing awareness of the roles that all school staff have in guidance needs of children.
