Holly the Hedgehog
Holly is a female African hedgehog. She was adopted in August and has been living in our media center (and at home with Mrs. Withrow) ever since. Hedgehogs are small mammals whose backs are covered with prickly spines. When they are frightened they roll up into a tight ball and their prickles stick out in all directions. Unlike porcupines, hedgies cannot shoot their prickles out to stick their enemies. Hedgehogs are quiet, nocturnal animals. Holly only makes noise when she is wakened too suddenly. When that happens she makes a sound something like a small hornets' nest buzzing.
In the wild hedgehogs eat insects and worms. Holly eats mostly catfood with an occassional treat of canned mealworms (yum!). To find out more about hedgehogs, check the links on this page. |
